Wales offers surfing experiences like nowhere else on earth - pure, invigorating and unspoiled.
Surfing in Wales can feel as good as it looks and you don’t need to be a veteran surfer to share in the exhilaration. With the right attitude, dedication and the essential wetsuit, the surfing challenge can be mastered in a surprisingly short time. If you have any friends that surf, you already know how relaxing, de-stressing, social yet exciting it can be. The board glides over a frictionless surface – all you have to do is learn how the forces work to bring the smile to your face.
There are a huge number of quality beaches from Swansea and the Gower, Aberystwyth up to Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy. Hells Mouth near Abersoch is one of the most consistent spots with great waves to be had at both ends of the beach. In the South, surfing on the Gower is equally good. With the peninsular of Worms Head providing protection on heavy days, Rhossili is a great location and produces great surf in almost any swell.
Wales has a variety of spectacular surfing beaches providing excellent surf in almost all wind and sea conditions. With this sport, good instruction is key to a rapid learning curve and with an unrivalled selection of surfing schools and courses, the choice of location is up to you. Take a look at the selection through the search below.
In many ways, learning to surf will be no different from learning to ride a skateboard or a snowboard. Once you pass through the novice stage, which with dedication can be passed through in days, you will be able to comfortably ride your first waves with confidence. Whatever your level though, you’ll be assured of a warm welcome, a variety of quality places to eat, drink and sleep and an almost endless selection of new beaches to explore and experience.
